We drove to Memphis today and went into downtown in time to get a spot at the railing on the mezzanine at the Peabody Hotel to see the famous “marching of the ducks” march from the fountain in the lobby to the elevator to go up to their penthouse for the night. The Peabody ducks have been doing this for 77 years! It is quite the tourist scene everyday at 11:00 when they ride the elevator in the morning and then again at 5:00 to their penthouse. The Duck Master give a little history, John Phillips Souza march plays and the ducks waddle - very cute.

We walked over to Beale Street for a little blues, soul and rock n roll. When I commented that it looked a little raunchy, Norm thought a better term was down and dirty. The street goes back to the 1800’s. A couple of the store fronts have been saved with big steel posts supporting them. We went into the Voodoo store, gave me the shivers, and the general store, A. Shuab’s, that has been there since 1826. Lots of music was playing. They are still selling old fashioned ladies slips and undershirts among other things. We went into Silly Sullivan’s for a drink and to listen to some music. Norm and I ordered Jack Daniels Honey over the rocks. It was really good! We enjoyed listening to a little blues and some Elvis music on the patio. When we came out we found out that it is Motorcycle Night every Wednesday. The street was closed off and the motorcycles were taking their places!

We walked up Second St. to the Rendezvous Bar B Que. It is in an alley and downstairs in the basement. It has been here forever and a must do in Memphis. It has red checked tablecloths and all kinds of collectables for decorations. The dry ribs were soooo good!
